

Clevon Dixon
Clevon Dixon (1920-___)
Clevon Dixon was
born at Adel, Oregon on March 4, 1920. His parents were Dixie and Clarence
Dixon. He had a brother Cecil Dixon who was two years older and a half-brother
and three half-sisters. All are deceased except one half-sister, Winnie
Walters who lives in Vancouver, WA. She is 90 years old and said to be
"going strong!"
Clevon went to school five years at Adel then they moved to Hart Lake
at Plush, Oregon. Clevon left home at age 15. He worked some around Plush.
He began working for the Warner Valley Stock Co. when he was 17.
Bill Kittredge bought Warner Stock Co. in 1936, and Ross Dollarhide, was
Buckaroo Boss. Clevon worked there until 1948.
Clevon married Anola Hapgood in 1942.

He worked some at
Surprise Valley when they came back to Coleman and Warner Valley ion 1952
and left to work for Jim Pogue at the Alvord Ranch in Oregon where he
stayed until 1954. He also spent a while at the White Horse Ranch until
March of 1955 when he went to work for Hugh Cahill at the MC Ranch.
Clevon figures he must have started 500 head of horses over the years
he was riding.
He worked for the MC for 25 years including 9 years as Buckaroo Boss.
He quit there in the fall of 1966 and bought acreage at Lake City California
in Surprise Valley. After moving to California Clevon shod horses and
did day work on different ranches. He also helped take one ranchers cattle
to summer range in Nevada in May and bring them home again in October.
He still has 2 cows and calves and 1 horse.
Clevon Dixon was inducted into the Buckaroo Hall of Fame in September
2005.
