Vaquero Days
(article)
Los Californios Heritage Association & Granville Museum
Vaquero Days began in December of 1992, to honor Elihu Granville "Granny"
Martin, one of the last true Vaqueros of California. Over the years, the
event has grown and changed, coming full circle this year to its new home
at Granny's ranch in Descanso, the current Granville Museum site.
Los Californios Heritage Association, and Granville Museum, both non-profit
organizations, have joined forces to put on Vaquero Days, and to create
a multipurpose site which can be used by many groups for other events
and celebrations.
The mission of LCHA is to promote our California Ranching Heritage, specfically
to promote and preserve the influences that shaped early California, through
creating forums to educate the community about, and celebrated the history
of early California; To establish and operate programs and events which
benefit those in need in the rural communities.
LCHA specifically benefits local 4H and FFA, through opportunities to
earn money, learn leadership skills, manage events, and through direct
contributions to their programs, in additioin to a college scholarship
fund.
The Granville Museum's purpose is to provide public education in the Industrial
Arts, Agricultural Arts, and the historical use and benefits of farm equipment.
"Junk is the stuff you throw out, and stuff is the junk you keep".
All proceeds from Vaquero Days go to support Alpine Amigos 4H, Mountain
Empire FFA, LCHA Scholarship fund, Descanso Town Hall Association, and
Granville Museum.
If you are interested in using the ranch to hold an event, contact the
Granville Museum at 619-445-2201.
